The Leader In Intensive Outpatient Treatment

In 1975, Ken Peters, a recovering alcoholic who was actively involved in many areas in the field of alcoholism, recognized the need for the provision of a more highly effective method of treatment for alcoholics and their families. He envisioned the outpatient concept as becoming the method of choice, and for eight years researched, studied, added, and discarded ideas to his original vision.

He enlisted the assistance of known professionals in the field of alcoholism and chemical dependency and, with their help, formulated a unique and complete system of effective outpatient programs for cost-effective treatment of addicted persons and their families. An innovative method of treatment was introduced placing emphasis on treating the entire family.

His dream became a reality in early 1983. Ken's program was originally known as Breakthrough Center, which in 1985 became known as Alternative Recovery Programs.

His daughter, Claudia Peters Ragni, and Dr. Lawrence Maltin as Medical Director, worked alongside him to build the premier outpatient program on Long Island. For several reasons, ARP was sold in 1989 to Parkside Medical Services. Dr. Maltin remained as Medical Director, and Claudia was retained as Executive Director. Ken passed away in March 1991. The facility he created was sold again in early 1994.

Claudia, along with the administrative and clinical staff of the program her father created, decided to leave ARP and build a new program to be named after Ken. It took almost one year to put together, but a new dream became reality in KPC: The Kenneth Peters Center For Recovery.

Each of KPC's two facilities are strategically located to provide easy access to both Nassau and Suffolk County residents. They have been designed and furnished in a manner that provides a warm and comfortable setting where addicted persons and their families can receive professional treatment and guidance.

The treatment team is well established and well known in the field of chemical dependency, and ensures that all clients will be treated with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
